The Santa Fe County Medical Society initiated Santa Fe Project Access (SFPA) in November of 2002, to promote and implement a physician driven “cure” to the community’s challenges in caring for uninsured patients. This population includes individuals and families living in Santa Fe County, who are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level and not covered by other commercial or governmental insurances. The majority of our enrollees are hard working people who cannot afford the insurance offered by their employer or are simply not offered insurance. As of April 2007, over 2000 patients have been cared for in the program. To date, a total of $5.1 million in physician and hospital services has been donated to SFPA. It is hoped that this number will grow over the coming months and move towards our goal of health improvement and access for all Santa Fe County Residents! At the core of SFPA are the providers of care who volunteer their services in order to assist our patients in getting the care they need. SFPA does not reimburse any person or organization for their services. Everything is done out of a realization that our current systems of care are inadequate to serve our population.
