How Project Access Works

ELIGIBILITY:

  • The individual does not have health insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare
  • The individual must reside in Santa Fe County; both citizens and noncitizens are eligible.
  • The individual must meet income criteria—Many people without insurance qualify. See the eligibility chart on this website.
  • The individual must be referred by a physician to SFPA

SERVICES:

SFPA provides access to:

  • Specialist services (see list of providers)
  • Diagnostic services (lab, X-ray, CT scan, MRI, etc.)
  • Hospital services (inpatient and outpatient at CHRISTUS/St. Vincent Regional Medical Center)

SFPA does not cover:

  • Emergency Department visits, prescription drugs, dental care, or vision care
  • Services that have already been provided to the individual

SFPA also provides:

  • Help enrolling in Medicaid, and other programs
  • Information on other health programs such as prescription drug programs, County Indigent Fund

Note: For SFPA there is no cost or copayment for the patient.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • The patient fills out an application form with the primary care provider
  • The form is faxed by the provider with the referral to SFPA (474-4663)
  • SFPA issues a SFPA blue ID card to the patient for a six month period
  • SFPA assists patient with accessing specialty providers
  • SFPA can also help patients with other programs for ongoing insurance coverage
